Held every ten years, its curatorial direction has been in the hands of Kasper König since its inception in 1977, 2017 in close cooperation with Britta Peters and Marianne Wagner. International artists are invited to develop site-related works for the urban space. Their projects go far beyond the specific location: their explorations are influenced by topical global themes and reflections on contemporary notions of sculpture as well as by ongoing questions relating to the public space in times of increasing digitization. The fifth edition of the Skulptur Projekte features around thirty new artistic positions moving between sculpture, installation, and performative art. The publication produced in conjunction with the show is a combination of exhibition catalogue and guide presented in a handy format. Seven essays, an extensive series of images, and short texts provide information about the projects. |
